An old Victorian-era establishment on Thornton’s main street that became famous for its steaks over the years has experienced some exciting changes in recent months.  The quaint sign hanging outside the entrance reads The Village Inn, but some refer to this fine dining establishment as The Queen’s Hotel, after the larger nameplate that is still prominent atop the second floor dormers and speaks of one of the building’s former uses back in the 1850’s.

From 1971 to 2003 the Hiles family owned The Village Inn, and made it into what some patrons would call a steak lover’s paradise.  In 2003, they turned the reigns of ownership over to the Porter family, who decided to build upon the restaurant’s solid reputation by making some renovations to the building and adding new menu items.

The Village Inn was lovingly restored over a period of five months and re-opened early 2004.  Entering through the front door feels like walking into a luxurious, yet welcoming Victorian home, resplendent with polished wood railings, antique fixtures and furnishings, all softly illuminated.

The restaurant can accommodate up to 100 guests, with two separate dining areas on the main floor, one mezzanine level and four private dining rooms for smaller groups upstairs.

General Manager Erin MacInnis says patrons will enjoy the expanded menu that now includes not only their famous Certified Angus Steaks, but fresh fish, pasta and chicken entrees.

Remember The Village Inn when you’re planning a special evening out or a romantic dinner for two – like the one the new owners had 25 years ago.
